Keen makes what it calls “hybrid footwear,” which takes on a whole different meaning with the Jasper Zionic. The new shoe not only combines the best of two Keen models but caters to multiple demographics in the process.

A traditional outdoor shoe at heart

First released in 2008, the original Jasper borrows much of its design from that of a traditional approach shoe. It features a durable suede upper, rugged toe cap and tongue-to-toe laces.

As such, the Jasper has always looked like it belongs outdoors, where it certainly thrives for casual adventures. But it’s also become a stalwart silhouette among city folk riding the trendy Gorpcore wave.

In fact, Keen recently celebrated the Jasper’s 15th anniversary by releasing a collaborative edition with Hiking Patrol โ€”ย an Oslo-based Instagram account that curates product releases “for outerwear-obsessed men to gawp over,” as Highsnobiety once put it.

Modern features for the trail

Now Keen wants to usher the Jasper along on the trail by collaborating with … itself.

The new Jasper Zionic takes the familiar upper of the Jasper and equips it with high-tech features found on Keen’s most innovative, forward-thinking hiking shoe, the Zionic.

Those features include a high-traction rubber outsole with 4mm multi-directional lugs and a lightweight shank for added stability. It also has a contoured fit like the Zionic, as opposed to the roomy, wide-toe-boxed Jasper.

Still, there’s no mistaking the source of its DNA. The new shoe comes in three colorways โ€”ย Orange Pepper, Silver Mink and black โ€”ย all of which come with tongue-to-toe lacing and a reinforced toe box like the OG Jasper.
