It is a fantastic time to be in the market for an affordable travel watch.
I know I’ve beaten this drum before, so apologies in advance if you’re tired of this spiel, but the debut of Seiko’s NH34 and Miyota’s 9075 GMT movements in 2022 opened up the floodgates for the affordable GMT market.
Budget-minded enthusiasts can now choose from an almost comical number of desirable GMTs under $1,000 on the market from the likes of Seiko, Jack Mason, Nodus and more, and there’s literally never been a better time to be shopping for a travel watch that won’t break the bank.
But GMTs aren’t the only type of travel watch out there. World timers also exist, and they represent an even more romantic way to display multiple time zones, with their displays showing 24 simultaneous time zones around the globe.
Compared to GMTs, world timers are almost exclusively found in very prestigious luxury watches. Patek Philippe is the brand most associated with the complication, to give you an idea.
But affordable world time watches do exist, running on modified GMT movements. With the new aforementioned affordable GMT calibers saturating the market, it was only a matter of time before we got a cheap world timer powered by a Seiko NH34 movement.
