In a tragic note for “Brotherhood of Muscle” members across the land, Dodge killed off the Charger and Challenger muscle cars after the 2023 model year. But the Dodge Charger is returning for 2024 — with a new electric and internal combustion lineup that will, and we quote the brand here, “displace superchargers with kilowatts and Power Shots.”

Dodge gave us an early preview at a location we can’t disclose in Detroit ahead of the official reveal on March 5th, where we had a chance to check out the cars in person and learn a few new interesting details. So without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona and the combustion Chargers to follow.

The Dodge Charger is both an EV and an internal-combustion vehicle

Dodge is building the new Charger on Stellantis’s “STLA Large” platform. The platform will accommodate what the company a “multi-energy lineup” — in other words, it can be used for both electric and internal combustion vehicles.

EV Chargers are called the Charger Daytona. Dodge is launching with two 400-volt trims, the Scat Pack and the R/T. Both will launch with Direct Connection Stage Kits that unlock more power beyond what those trims will make stock.

The Charger, meanwhile, is a gas-powered muscle car. It is getting standard and high-output versions of the “Sixpack” twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six that’s known as the Hurricane in other vehicles.

Fortunately or not, Dodge probably isn’t going to offer a Ram 1500 Ramcharger-style range extender version due to packaging constraints in the Charger’s engine bay.

Dodge is building two-door and four-door Chargers

While the concept car was only seen as a coupe, for production, Dodge is offering the Charger in both two and four-door variants. Electric and combustion models will both be offered in two and four-door versions. Both models provide a hatch for improved access to the cargo space (up to 37.4 cubic feet with the seat folded).

Both the two-door and four-door models will simply be “Chargers.” The Challenger nameplate is on ice for now.

Dodge Chargers now come with standard all-wheel-drive

The next generation of muscle now comes with all-wheel-drive, standard. The front and rear bias will vary depending on the drive mode selected. Drive modes include a donut mode, a drift mode and two different race modes. Combustion Chargers will be able to disconnect fully and use rear-wheel-drive.

How much power will the new Dodge Charger have?

Short answer: more. The most potent Charger is currently the Charger Daytona. The Scat Pack offers up to 670 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds. The R/T delivers up to 496 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque and can hit a top speed of 137 mph vs. the Scat Pack’s 134 mph.

Horsepower figures for the Daytonas include output from the “Power Shot” button, which adds 40 horsepower for 15 seconds.

The combustion Charger comes with 420 horsepower in the standard output version of the Sixpack and 550 horsepower in the high-output version — approximately the same outputs from the new Ram 1500.

How much electric range will the Dodge Charger Daytona have?

Dodge says the R/T delivers up to 317 miles of range on a single charge, and the Scat Pack model offers 260 miles. Both vehicles can refill their 93.9 kWh battery packs from 5-80% in 32.5 minutes on a 350 kW DC fast charger.

Does the electric Dodge Charger have a manual transmission?

Not yet, but soon — after a fact. Dodge is planning to offer a two-speed eRupt “manual” transmission, but it will only feature on more potent 800-volt architecture versions like the Charger Banshee, which have yet to arrive.

The new Dodge Charger gets some big tires and brakes

The Charger Daytona EV is not going to be light. At 5,838 pounds, it’s around 1,300 pounds heavier than the heaviest previous-gen Charger. To help you cope with that, Dodge is providing massive Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires — 305s up front and 325s at the rear. The brakes are 16-inch Brembo vented rotors with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers.

Does this electric Dodge make noise?

Hell yes. Charger EVs get a system Dodge is calling “Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust.” The precise sound is still being finalized, but we heard a beta version at the preview event, and found it matches the sound of the Hellcat, with the cadence, beat and tempo mimicing the Hemi V8’s firing order. It even delivers real-time feedback to respond to throttle inputs like an ICE engine would.

When does the new Charger arrive?

The Dodge Charger is getting a staggered rollout. Two-door Charger Daytona EVs launch first, in mid-2024. The four-door EV and all the gas models arrive in the first quarter of 2025. Dodge should also launch the Banshee sometime in 2025.

How much does the new Dodge Charger cost?

Dodge has yet to announce pricing for the new Charger. We’re betting bet the price jumps from the outgoing model, which started around $35,000. The Sixpack SO has 50 more horsepower than the outgoing Charger R/T, which started around $45,000. Presumably, the EV will be even pricier.
