I’ve tested quite a few portable Bluetooth speakers over the years, but admittedly, I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed one with built-in magnets. It’s kind of an ingenious feature, actually, as it allows you to stick the portable speaker to any metal surface, be it a golf cart, a beach umbrella, or a bike. I’m into it.
I know they’re out there โ Outdoor Tech’s Bolt ($80) is one such example โ but portable speakers with built-in magnets just aren’t that common. That said, it’s one of the things that make some of Altec Lansing’s newest portable speakers really stand out.
Altec Lansing Hydra 2.0 Portable Speakers
This week, Altec Lansing โ an audio brand known for its relatively affordable headphones and speakers โ released its Hydra 2.0 line of portable speakers. In total, there are nine different portable speaker models, each varying in size, abilities and price โ they range from $25 to $150.
Like the first-gen Hydra lineup, each Hydra 2.0 portable speaker is integrated with the company’s “Everythingproof” tech โ each is IP67 rated โ and thus is super durable and can even float in water.
Uniquely, each speaker comes with its own carabiner, so you can quickly clip it to a bag or piece of furniture, as well as a mount for securely attaching it to a bike or golf cart. (You don’t have to use either carabiner or mount if you don’t want to.)
