Hyundai’s high-performance “N” sub-brand is one of the most exciting things coming from the Korean manufacturer. The current lineup includes the Kona N crossover and the Elantra N sedan, which can be fitted with a manual transmission. And there are no plans to slow down in the electrified era, with a red-hot Ioniq 5 N electric car (packing more than 600 horsepower) arriving in 2024.
Now, Korean reports say Hyundai’s wild N Vision 74 hydrogen hybrid sports car will be heading to production (with the name N74), albeit in very low numbers. And it could arrive sooner than you think.
The N74 is real … but don’t expect a lot of them
Korean outlet ET News first reported that Hyundai confirmed plans to put the N Vision 74 into production.
And, according to a new report by Korean Economy Daily, the manufacturer will allegedly build a limited run of 200 vehicles — up from 100, as previously reported — for the 2026 production year.
The N74 may be more powerful than initially thought
Hyundai’s concept version of the N Vision 74 had an estimated 671 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque from its hydrogen fuel cell hybrid. But according to Korean Economy Daily, the production version could pack 775 horsepower and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds or less.
The N74 might operate as EV when hydrogen fuel is not available
In addition to designing the car with a 4.2-kg hydrogen fuel tank, Hyundai says the N74 could also boast a 62.4-kWh battery. The company even suggests that car could operate as a plug-in hybrid when hydrogen fuel is not available.
It could cost more than the Cadillac Celestiq
If the N74 does indeed happen, the production numbers alone mean you won’t be seeing many on your local commute. Pricing will also keep the car reserved to the luxury segment.
According to the Korean Economy Daily report, the N74 will cost upward of $365,000 — around 500 million Korean won. For those counting, that’s more than the $340,000 base price of the 2024 Cadillac Celestiq.
Hyundai never ruled out building a production N Vision 74
Hyundai did not have a concrete plan to build a production version of the N Vision 74 when it first revealed the concept. But the brand has given hints that it wants the car to happen.
Luc Donckerwolke, Hyundai’s chief creative officer, told TopGear, “I hate doing show cars and then … nothing.”
He also noted that Hyundai could “absolutely” build the N Vision 74: “We are serious about this. This could come into production. We have the platform. It’s a motorsport platform.”
Hyundai filed a trademark application for “Hyundai N74”
A 7th Mustang forum user uncovered that Hyundai had filed a trademark application in Europe for “Hyundai N74” — a step Hyundai would have to take if the car were heading for production.
The N Vision 74 has already won some serious design awards
Hyundai has been earning some serious plaudits for the N Vision 74 concept’s design. The N Vision 74 took home a Red Dot Design award last year. It also won a Gold Award at IDEA 2023.
