Spyderco has all the hallmarks of an iconic knife brand: quality, variety, uniqueness and heritage. It was the first manufacturer to equip its knives with a pocket clip, while the signature round hole featured on its blades carries a US utility patent and allows for single-handed opening.

It’s no wonder so many collectors flock to its Sprint Run series of limited-edition pocket knives, showcasing different Spyderco products in novel configurations. Most of the time, that means new colorways and high-end steel — a pairing you will most certainly find within brand’s latest Sprint Run.

Spyderco’s latest Sprint Run

The latest Sprint Run consists of seven models that will be familiar to anyone who knows their way around Spyrderco’s catalog.

Four of the knives are available now, including the Police 4, Delica 4, Endela and Endura 4. The three remaining variants — the Manbug, Dragonfly 2 and Stretch 2 XL — have yet to be released but should be coming soon.

Like all Sprint Runs, the latest one comes with a unique colorway exclusive to the limited-edition knives. In this case, that’s a deep shade of burgundy that leans closer to purple than red and pairs exceptionally well with a black coating on the blade and hardware. But what’s truly special here is Spyderco’s choice of steel.

All seven models boast what’s known as Micro-Melt PD#1, an air-hardening tool steel from Carpenter Technology that’s composed of carbon, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium and tungsten.

As such, it shares the same balanced profile of CPM CruWear, common within the knife industry and renowned for its combination of toughness and edge retention, with some corrosion-resistant properties, to boot — all present on Micro-Melt PD#1.

An EDC workhorse

This new Sprint Run isn’t the first time Spyderco has used the steel. Micro-Melt PD#1 also featured in a one-off Mule Team blade, which the company sold without a handle. However, it’s much rarer than CruWear, despite the steels’ similarities in performance.

Of all the new Sprint Run models, the Endela is probably the one most tuned to EDC enthusiasts. The full-flat grind blade measures 3.41 inches, making it suitable to a variety of tasks. And it weighs just 3.2 ounces. Together with the Micro-Melt PD#1, enthusiasts will find a pocket knife suited to take anywhere — and take on just about anything.

Find it online while supplies last, along with the other variants within the limited-edition Sprint Run. But, as is the case with many of Spyderco’s one-off releases, don’t expect stock to sit around for long.
