These All-Terrain Camper Vans Are Nicer Than Most Airbnbs

Italian stone countertops? Heated floors? Living in a van down by the river is starting to sound pretty great.

If you want your home to look beautiful, you hire an interior designer. So, wouldn’t it make sense to do the same when building a camper van?

That’s essentially the conceit behind War Horse All Terrain camper vans. The brand was founded by Kyle Yoder, a furniture designer by trade, who believed that the current camper van space lacked sophistication in its designs.

The young brand has a couple of builds under its belt, and one look at the vans’ interiors will have you wishing every adventure van was appointed like a luxury hotel room.

High-End Materials and a Designer’s Touch

I’m struggling to think of a camper van I’ve seen with an interior that looks as good as those in War Horse’s vans. I’m not hyperbolic when I say they’re nicer than most Airbnbs I’ve stayed in. (Maybe that says more about my choice in Airbnbs, but I digress.)

“After years of interior designing for high-end homes, I was very attracted to the idea of implementing the same aesthetics and materials used in those homes into our luxury camper vans,” Yoder tells Gear Patrol.

The brand’s latest build, a 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 AWD, uses Italian stone for the kitchen countertops and bathroom walls.

A porcelain toilet โ€” in black to match the matte-black shower and kitchen faucet โ€”ย operates via a digital flush. The spa shower has a real teak wood floor, while heated floors are found throughout the cabin for an ultra-luxe underfoot feel.

Teak is also found elsewhere in the van’s interior as complementary trim to the Alcantara suede upholstery. Other amenities include a fridge, a large built-in TV, a clothes dryer and a bed on hydraulics that stows away in the ceiling when not in use.

More Power

With its vans being destined for glamping, War Horse All Terrain decided to equip them with a power source that basically ensures you’ll have as much power as you could possibly need on the campsite.

While solar panels are present as backup, the main power source is a massive and technologically advanced 48-volt power system. The system includes a dedicated secondary alternator mounted on the engine that produces 7,000 watts and can fully charge the vehicle’s batteries after just an hour on the road. War Horse’s vans are among the first to use such a system.

I think the luxurious and stylish interiors are what set War Horse’s vans apart, but let’s not forget that “All Terrain” is also part of the company’s name. The newest 4×4 build boasts a RIP suspension kit from Agile Offroad that includes a two-inch lift and Fuel Rebar 6 20×9 custom wheels wrapped in 35-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler off-road tires. Basically, these vans can go almost anywhere.

How to Buy One

War Horse All Terrain builds its vans in Sarasota, FL, and has plans to open a sales office and showroom near Boulder, CO, next spring. The company currently has one adventure van ready to go (the one described in this article), and its previous build โ€”ย the 2017 Sprinter in the lead image of this story โ€”ย was recently sold.

You can also start building your own custom van by using the brand’s online builder. The builder allows you to choose options like stone material, cabinet finishes, flooring and more. Turnaround times are about 90 days, and all vans are priced from $250,000 to $300,000.
