On the road, Hoka’s built its reputation on big and bouncy running shoes โ like the Clifton, Bondi and newly released Skyward X โย that prioritize comfort over speed. But that’s the road, and the trail demands a different type of beast.
Here, Hoka’s not afraid to be nimble, offering runners stable yet responsive rides that dominate races like the prestigious Western States Endurance Run (recently won by Hoka athlete Jim Walmsley).
Such is the purpose of the ever-popular Speedgoat, first released in 2015 and recently overhauled for its sixth iteration.
Hoka Speedgoat 6
Rebuilt from the ground up
Fans of the Speedgoat series call it the GOAT, but the name is no longer a simple nod to its place in the pantheon of trail running shoes. For the sixth iteration, Hoka actually modeled the shoe’s lug pattern to resemble the split-toed hoof of a mountain goat.
While the pattern doesn’t guarantee you’ll be able to scale sheer cliffs in record time, it does promise security on wet and dry terrain alike, helped along by Hoka’s use of Vibram Megagrip โย a durable rubber compound found across a variety of brands.
