Jeep’s Wagoneer S Sets an Impressive Standard for Off-Road EVs

600 horsepower plus 300 miles of range equals the new benchmark for electric SUVs.

With so many new EVs being released these days, it’s hard to get excited about the next one coming down the pike. Oh, look, another Kia EV. Neat.

But today, we finally have a new electric vehicle worth fawning over, as Jeep has unveiled its first-ever fully-electric SUV for the U.S. market in the Wagoneer S.

Setting a new benchmark for EV SUVs

First things first, the Wagoneer S is busting out of the gate with some eye-popping numbers.

torque — all of which is available on demand. That’s good enough to rocket the 4×4 from 0 – 60mph in just 3.4 seconds, which is faster than a 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition.

The new e-Jeep isn’t just a speed demon, however, as it also boasts a range of more than 300 miles. I’d argue this number is considerably more important than raw power for most buyers. Whether you’re a soccer mom using the Wagoneer S as a daily driver or you’re someone looking to take it on an off-roading excursion, having this type of range will come in much more handy than the ability to smoke your tires off.

Though not having to compromise on either sure is nice, too.

Don’t worry, it’s still a Jeep

Any vehicle bearing the Jeep name needs to be able to hold its own off-road, and despite its lack of a combustion engine, the Wagoneer S certainly keeps up its end of the bargain.

management system which allows drivers to select between five different driving modes depending on the terrain and situation: Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow and Sand.

As a signal of even greater off-road capabilities in the future, Jeep debuted a Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept alongside the Wagoneer S Launch Edition that goes on sale later this year.

The Trailhawk concept adds a Rock mode to Selec-Terrain along with a driver-selectable electronic rear axle locker. It also boasts a lifted suspension, oversized 31.5-inch all-terrain tires, heavy-duty tow hooks and other off-road goodies.

The Trailhawk is just a concept, mind you, but it’s not so extreme to think we could see a very similar version make it to production in the very near future.

The Wagoneer S is a luxury SUV

In recent years, the name “Jeep” has increasingly conveyed luxury as much as off-road ruggedness, and that trend continues impressively with the Wagoneer S.

Make no mistake: This is a luxury SUV.

The Wagoneer S Launch Edition features more than 45 inches of usable screen space in its high-tech interior — which is both class-leading and a little insane — and it’s equipped with a bonkers, 19-speaker McIntosh sound system with a 1,200-watt
amplifier and 12-inch subwoofer.

The interior also boasts niceties like ambient lighting with 64 selectable colors and heated and ventilated seats, even in the rear. The exterior is sleek and aerodynamic, highlighted by a slotted grille (huzzah!) that’s illuminated by LEDs (meh).

Pricing and Availability

The Jeep Wagoneer S will roll into dealerships in the United States and Canada this fall, followed by a worldwide rollout shortly thereafter.

The SUV’s starting SRP is $71,995, which ain’t cheap, but it’s not particularly outrageous either. It’s less than half the price of Mercedes-Benz’s new electric G-Wagen, so when you look at it through that lens, this powerful and luxurious 4×4 BEV is a downright bargain.
